Although Gwangju International Airport is located in Gwangju, the state-of-the-art Muan International Airport, recently opened for service, will be used for the Universiade. Construction of a two-way four-lane expressway connecting Gwangju and Muan International Airport will be completed soon.

Incheon International Airport, opened for service in 2001, and was the main airport for the 2002 Korea-Japan FIFA World Cup Games. The number of users per year stands at 27 million persons (as of 2007).
Incheon International Airport was selected as the Best Airport in the World by Global Traveller in 2004, and the Best Airport Worldwide by IATA and ACI in 2006. Incheon International Airport is completely accessible to the physically-challenged, while Muan International Airport will also be completely accessible by 2012. Complimentary airport shuttles will carry athletes, officials, FISU officials and family to the competition venues.

In 2002, Incheon International Airport launched construction for a new runway and 30 new boarding gates, to be completed by 2008. Work progress to date as of December 2006 is 62%.
Muan International Airport (opened for service on November 8, 2007) is located some 45km from the Universiade Village. Muan International Airport can accommodate take-offs and landings of medium-sized aircraft, and has an apron where 9 plans can berth concurrently.
