Although
Gwangju does have its own International Airport, the newly
opened Muan International Airport will primarily be used
for the 2013 Summer Universiade.
It takes 40 minutes from Muan International Airport to
the Village via an expressway and ring road, over a combined
distance of 45km. During the Universiade, complimentary
shuttle bus services will be provided between the airports
and the competition venues. |
|
Road infrastructure |
| Gwangju is well connected via expressways,
a high-speed railway, national roads, provincial roads, and
city and county roads. |
Expressways |
Travel time
from Incheon to Gwangju is three and a half hours via either
the two-way fourlane Honam Expressway or the Seohaean (West
Coast) Expressway.
It takes 40 minutes from Muan to Gwangju via expressway. ITS
(Intelligent Transportation System) devices are already installed,
providing access to nationwide transportation information. |
Outer ring road |
| Key facilities
such as the competition venues, the Universiade Village, the
headquarters hotel, the media hotel and the IBC/MPC will be
located along Gwangju’s four-lane outer ring road. |
During the Universiade,
both directions of the one entire section of the outer
ring road will be used as dedicated Universiade lanes
and will be accessible only by Universiade vehicles, media
vehicles and shuttle buses.
Private vehicles belonging to general spectators will
not have access to the ring road. The access road from
the outer ring road to the main stadium has six lanes,
and all existing access roads to competition venues are
scheduled to be upgraded for the Universiade. |
